I make rods from 3-6 weight, for the fishing conditions I encounter in and around western Massachusetts and the greater northeast streams and rivers. I make rods in lengths from 5‘6” up to 8’ in both 2- and 3-piece configurations.
My favorite length is 7’9” as it is short enough to maneuver under the graceful canopy of small streams, and long enough to store and deliver power from a casting stroke on medium and larger streams and rivers. I find this length is useful for following drifts and effectively mending without being ‘tip heavy’ and fatiguing over a long day on the water.
